Six days and counting….

Hi! We are down to the final six days before our adventure begins to serve with the Fisher Family in Jinga, Uganda.  Last year, Sally and Bri Dykstra and Sandy Holtrop felt God nudging them to go to visit the Fisher Family in Soroti, Uganda and serve with them there.  God opened some doors and a window or two to make that possible.  It was an amazing adventure and we were so blessed to go to Africa.  When we came home last year we never dreamed that we would feel God’s call again to go and even if we did would those doors and windows open again.

Our Worship Center children from Hillcrest CRC in Hudsonville began collecting funds in the fall of 2013 to put a playground up in Naigobya, Uganda at St Paul’s Primary School.  We visited the school last year and there is nothing there except for a soccer goal without a net.  Chris Fisher emailed a few of us about the possibility of a group coming to put up some playground equipment.  We knew that we would love to go and started to research the kind of playground that would be best for Uganda.  Chris got in touch with East African Playgrounds but they did not have time to help us this summer.  By this time the Worship Center Children had raised almost $2,000 and we felt God calling us to go and “do something”!!!

In May, with God’s incredible leading we purchased airline tickets for Darwin, Sally, Michael and Bri Dykstra and Sandy and Arry Holtrop.  God had once again been so good to us in allowing us to serve HIM by building a playground for so many schoolchildren who have nothing to play on.  We cannot wait to see the look on the children’s faces when they see what we are doing to their playground.

To make this story complete we received an email from Michelle Fisher with exciting news.  They were having ice cream in Kampala when a man approached Chris and just wanted to talk.  Chris saw that he had “East African Playgrounds” on his shirt and told of our wanting to put up a playground in Naigobya.  The man said he would contact the right people and they would train someone to help us.  When God opens a door or window sometimes he opens it wide…..and we just need to obey HIS call.  Praise The Lord, what divine providence!!!!!

This year we are going to be staying in Jinga, Uganda where the Fisher Family now lives and serves. We think there will be adequate internet service to update this blog.  So…as we go and “do something” we hope to be able to update you by posting here.

We would appreciate your prayers as we leave from Chicago late Sunday afternoon.  We have a four hour layover in Amsterdam and then fly on to Uganda.  With God’s blessing we will meet up with the Fishers at the airport at 10:30 on Monday evening which is 3:30 Michigan time.

Thanks for praying.  Darwin, Sally, Michael, Bri, Sandy and Arry
